Privacy Policy

We share limited technical data with a small set of service providers who help run the site. Cloudflare fronts our traffic and stores IP addresses and request headers in short-lived logs to protect the site from abuse. Our analytics provider records aggregate page views and referrer strings but never sees the raw IP address in a form that could identify an individual visitor. Advertising and affiliate partners receive a click identifier only when you follow a tracked outbound link — see the affiliate disclosure page for the full list.

We use technical logs to keep the site available and fast, to spot broken pages and to defend against automated abuse. We use aggregate analytics to decide which articles to update first and which sections to expand. We use form submissions solely to reply to your message and, if you asked to be corrected on the record, to update the relevant page. We do not build advertising profiles of visitors and we do not sell any of the data we hold.

Automatically: the IP address of the request, the user agent, the referring URL, the pages you view on the site, the approximate country derived from the IP address and standard technical error information when something breaks. If you send a message through the contact form or by email, we retain what you wrote plus the address you sent it from for as long as your query is open. If you enter a name in an author-comment or feedback control, we keep that too. We do not collect payment information, we do not ask for your Novibet account details and we would not accept them if you sent them.

The site uses a small number of first-party cookies to remember your consent settings, the last time you dismissed the responsible-gambling banner and, if you use the outbound tracker, the identifier of the link you followed. Third-party cookies are used by the analytics and delivery-network providers listed above and, for tracked outbound clicks, by the affiliate networks we send you to. Blocking cookies in your browser is supported: nothing on the site requires them and the reading experience is unchanged, though repeated consent prompts may become more frequent.

As a New Zealand resident you have rights under the Privacy Act 2020: to know what personal information we hold about you, to obtain a copy of it, to correct it if it is wrong and to complain to the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we mishandled it. Visitors from other jurisdictions have equivalent rights under their own regimes — GDPR in Europe, PIPEDA in Canada, LGPD in Brazil and so on. Send privacy-specific requests — access, correction, deletion, portability — to that address rather than to the general editorial mailbox, so we can log them separately and respond within the statutory timeframe. Please include enough information for us to verify that the data belongs to you: we would rather delay a response by a day than hand your data to someone who impersonated you.
